BIO
Yulin Yan (b. 1998) is a Chinese composer of instrumental and electroacoustic music, currently based in Montreal. Drawing on literature, theatricality, olfactory art, and social concerns, her music creates multilayered and sensorial experiences. Her works have been presented internationally at events such as ManiFeste, ARCo Academy, ilSUONO Contemporary Music Week, live@CIRMMT, Code d’accès, Collectif RADIANCE, Novalis Festival, Roadrunner Academy, and the Thailand International Composition Festival, among others. She has collaborated with ensembles including Ensemble Multilatérale, Ensemble Suono Giallo, Hong Kong New Music Ensemble, Ensemble Éclat, McGill Contemporary Music Ensemble, and McGill SSoM Saxophone, as well as conductors Lorraine Vaillancourt, Gregor A. Mayrhofer, Charles-Eric Fontaine, and Sohye Jung.
Yan receives grants and funding from the Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQ-SC), the China Scholarship Council (CSC), the Schulich Graduate Scholarship, and the National Scholarship (China). She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Composition from the Sichuan Conservatory of Music, where she studied with Xiaozhong Yang, and a Master’s degree from McGill University, where she is currently pursuing her Doctorate in composition under the supervision of Philippe Leroux.MEDIA
