Yulin Yan (b. 1998, CN) is a composer of instrumental and electroacoustic music currently based in Montreal. Rooted in the spiritual legacy of her upbringing in China, her practice unfolds within the absurdity of the present, examining the tension between intimacy and detachment through an exquisitely nuanced palette of timbres. Her research focuses on choreographing gesture and sound into theatrical dialogues via machine learning techniques and artificial intelligence. Her works have been presented internationally at various events, including ManiFeste, live@CIRMMT, ARCo Academy, ilSUONO Contemporary Music Week, Code d’accès, Collectif RADIANCE, Novalis Festival, and Roadrunner Academy. She has collaborated with ensembles including Ensemble Multilatérale, BL!NDMAN [sax], Ensemble Suono Giallo, Hong Kong New Music Ensemble, Ensemble Éclat, McGill Contemporary Music Ensemble, and McGill SSoM Saxophone, as well as conductors Lorraine Vaillancourt, Gregor A. Mayrhofer, Charles-Eric Fontaine, and Sohye Jung.
